Elastic tapes are different than normal ones due to their stretching ability factor. Usually, the former can be pulled to an approximate 140% capacity of their length. Elasticity is in itself a distinctive attribute. Like the way our skin recoils, once pulled, similarly the elasticized materials regain their form shortly after a strain. Generally, elastic tapes are made from polyester yarn, polypropylene yarn, cotton yarn, nylon yarn and high quality heat resistant rubber threads. Elastane has a higher stretching capacity than regular materials. Usually, woven elastic tapes are smoother, more refined, and flatter than crochet elastic tapes. Producing Elastic Tapes
There are three different ways to create elastic tapes, namely braiding, knitting and weaving. Braiding involves intertwining of rubber and yarn threads crossing over each other to form a net. Knitting, however is entwining of yarn and rubber strands either in straight or round fashion. Weaving is the normal process of interlacing threads to produce a material, in this case an elastic tape.
